Hey guys,
Here are a few examples of modernist and surrealist art. The first two are modernist. Country Road in Provence by Night (the image on the left) is by Vincent Van Gogh and was made in 1889. The image on the right is The Scream by Edvard Munch (1893). The bottom two images are surrealist. The left is Magritte's Pipe by Rene Magritte (1928). The text reads "This is not a pipe." The painting attempts to point out the difference between reality and representation. It is not a pipe. It is a painting of a pipe. The other painting is Elephant Celebes (1921) by Max Ernst. Enjoy!
